Perfecting Your Practice® Conference 2023 – A 25 Year Legacy

The 2023 Perfecting Your Practice® (PYP) conference celebrated a 25 year legacy of leading edge educational content, trade shows, and networking. The gathering of Denturists, dental suppliers and industry professionals provided the venue for continuing education and increased sharing of knowledge amongst attendees.

This year's lectures covered a full spectrum of learning – from technological advances (Simplifying Your Digital Denture Journey with Ivotion sponsored by Ivoclar and How to Easily Incorporate Digital Equipment into Your Already Busy Practice sponsored by Central Dental) to marketing and clinic growth (Smile Today Accelerated Full-Arch Practice Growth through Marketing and Patient Education Made Easy sponsored by ZimVie and Everything You Wanted to Know About Solving Daily Clinic Frustrations and Didn’t Know Who to Ask by The DAC) to important healthcare information (Making the Mold: Mental Health and Addiction Impressions for Denturists, and Health Care Provider (HCP) level CPR).

Collaboration was also a key theme this year, illustrating the many benefits of multi-disciplinary treatment as presented by Straumann in 2 different lectures (Virtual Planning for Immediate Full Arch Rehabilitation: A Collaborative Approach and The Edentulous Patient: Past, Present and Future). There was also an emphasis on the technical aspects of Denturism (Vertical Dimension Considerations, Thinking Beyond the Textbook 1 to 3 mm of Freespace sponsored by Vita North America and The Road to the Perfect Implant Bar Solution for Your Patients sponsored by Panthera).

DAO Director and PYP Chair Tricia Kirby DD was very pleased with the outcome of this year’s conference. “As PYP Chairperson, it was my pleasure to assist in this monumental 25th year of Perfecting Your Practice,” she said. “Our continuing education and professional networking is at the top of our field. I'm excited for our future as a profession.”

As always, the learning continued well after the courses were over, as members had lots of opportunity for discussion and networking. In the evening, the DAO Board hosted a fun outing to the Fallsview Casino, which included shuttle service back and forth from the hotel. Colleagues reported lots of winnings that night - mainly the wins of creating relationships, sharing experiences, and making memories!

One of the highlights of the event was provided by Vita North America, who generously provided a grand prize trip to VITA Zahnfabrik in Germany, which included a 2 day hands-on workshop, ground transportation, most meals, activities, excursions, 5 nights accommodations, and economy airfare for one person – valued at $4000!

DAO Member Majid Ahangaran DD, said, “I attended this year‘s PYP after many years of not being able to attend. My favourite part was meeting up with old friends and trading stories and experiences of the clinics and in life. The speakers were great and the event was well organized, great accommodations, and great food. I will be there next year at the new ASM, Looking forward to it!”

DAO Social Media Committee Member Yvonne Rosal DD was also very pleased with the conference. “I have enjoyed my 1st and 2nd attendance to PYP and AGM but this year is different, it added fuel to my growing passion for Denturism,” she said. “I got motivated and inspired during the event so I decided to be part of the Social Media Committee to use my fiery passion for Denturism.”

The 25th Anniversary of PYP was made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors: Ivoclar, Straumann, ZimVie, Central Dental, Vita North America and Panthera.

The Denturist Association of Ontario is proud of its legacy of bringing world class education to its members, attracting participants from all over Canada and the world.
