This position is located at 200 John Street West in Oshawa, Ontario.The Health Department is seeking a Denturist, with strong clinical skills, to assist in providing oral health services for children, youth, adults, and seniors as directed by the Ministry of Health programs. Reporting to the Clinical Manager of Oral Health, the incumbent will:- Provide comprehensive denture care and service including but not limited to treatment planning, denture design, for the patient. The denturist will measure patient's jaws to determine the size and shape of dentures required, take impressions, fabricate full and partial dentures, fit and adjust new dentures, as well as reline and rebase existing dentures, and fabricate mouth protectors- Provide oral health assessments and related denture care for children, adults, and seniors who are eligible for Ontario Seniors Dental Care, Healthy Smiles Ontario, Ontario Works, and Ontario Disability Support Programs- Provide dental care for residents in the Regional Homes for the Aged- Maintain knowledge of all Provincially funded programs including OSDCP OW, ODSP, and HSO- Problem solve when a client is having issues adapting to their denture- Consult with patients, review medical histories and get informed consent for treatment for denture services- Consult with contracted lab on denture fabrication and design as needed- Receive referrals from Durham Region dental clinic for denture care- Maintain client records in accordance with the College of Denturists of Ontario recordkeeping guidelines using electronic software- Assess the medical history, dental history and general health condition of the client to determine what precautions are necessary- Perform infection prevention and control practices in compliance with best practice standards and divisional policies and procedures- Follow all Durham Region Policy and Procedures- Lead and provide support to the dental team in the completion of tasks, such as clinical chartings, client specific oral hygiene and post-denture care instructions- Participate in projects and research initiatives, exchanging current information with other health professionals- Resolve conflicts with clients, staff, and members of the public as necessary- Provide input into the development of program policies, and ensure implementation of policies and procedures in the dental clinic- May provide services on patients with disabilities, behavior issues and compromised medical conditions- Document treatment provided in dental software system- Respond to public inquiries in a timely and customer friendly manner- Participate in interdisciplinary committees and program planning to meet community and program needsThe successful applicant will possess:- Graduate diploma from a recognized Denturism Program and a current certificate of registration in good staning with The College of Denturists of Ontario- Considerable experience in the fabrication and insertion of dentures- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of oral health care, dental conditions and infection practice and control- Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to handle client concerns with tact and discretion- Demonstrated leadership skills coupled with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision- The ability to adapt and respond to a changing environment- Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License and use of a vehicle- Familiarity with government legislation in the area of Occupational Health and Safety- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is an asset- Multilingualism would be considered an assetThis position is with Salary Grade 8 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:- Start: $46.39 - One Year: $48.96 - Two Year: $51.54Prior to the start date, the successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check dated within two (2) months from date of hire. Proof of education, qualifications and any other job bona fide requirements will also be collected.In addition, all new hires must be fully vaccinated upon hire to meet the Region's Mandatory Covid-19 Vaccination Policy.
